West Bend mixed-media artist Megan Woodard Johnson’s exhibit, “Examining the Layers,” will be on display at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Langdon Divers Gallery Dec. 4 to Jan. 2. A reception is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12. The public is invited, and refreshments will be served.

Johnson’s abstract mixed-media paintings feature acrylic paint, oil, pastel, graphite, colored pencil and collage. She creates visual, visceral records of the way moments and experiences converge to create the rich elements of our personal histories. Johnson said she approaches each piece as a kind of map or record: using line, shape and gesture to chart the experiences that have come before, merging organization with spontaneity, resulting in a celebration of the complex history of a single moment.

Johnson received her bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and Fine Art Printmaking from Shepherd University in West Virginia. Over the past decade, she has shown her work in numerous juried and solo exhibitions and events in the Midwest. She has taught collage and mixed media workshops and completed multiple artist residencies. Her work hangs in private collections in and beyond the United States and is represented in galleries in Wisconsin and Michigan. In 2019, Johnson added exhibition curator and artist mastermind facilitator to her resume, building connections with and helping support artists around the country.

The Langdon Divers Gallery’s volunteer curator is local artist Mel Kolstad, who can be contacted at [email protected]. For more information, visit the gallery’s Facebook page at facebook.com/langdondivers.
